Flying from the U.K;
Easyjet, Ryanair, Royal Air Maroc and Atlas Blue all have regular flights from the UK to Marrakech; Thomsonfly and FlyThomasCook both have weekly flights to Agadir. Atlas Blue are the budget arm of Royal Air Maroc and are sometimes substituted for RAM so beware of paying for a full service flight and ending up with a budget one!
Flying from Europe;
Essaouira has a small airport but, at present, the only direct flights from Europe are from Paris. The airport has just been expanded and direct flights from the UK are expected soon.
Coaches
There are several coaches per day from Marrakech to Essaouira - they are air-conditioned and stop half way for a 20 minute break. The Supratours bus costs approx. 55Dh per person for a single ticket and there are 3 buses a day. The journey takes approx 2½ hours.
The Supratours station in Marrakech is next to the train station and you can buy your tickets right up to departure, though at busy times you will need to book in advance in person - only really an option if you are staying in Marrakesh for some of your stay.Supratours
The departure terminus in Essaouira near to Dar Doughri. Our guest house manager will meet you off the coach to help with your luggage. Return journeys to Marrakech are three times a day.
Taxis
The drive to Essaouira from Marrakech is about 160 km, but somehow takes 3 hours. The reason is the low speed limits, with speeds never exceeding more than 60kph, which means a slow drive through Marrakech’s suburbs and every other town and village on the route but its all part of the Moroccan experience.
The cost of a single trip (of up to 4 people) to Essaouira is 600 Dirhams (approx GBP48), 4 x 4 or small MPV (up to 6 people) is 1,000 dirhams (approx. GBP80) or a large MPV (up to 8 people) is 1,200 dirhams (approx. GBP96) from either Marrakech or Agadir airport.
Within the town of Essaouira, the small blue taxis work on a flat rate of 6Dh for up to 3 people, rising to 8Dh from 8am-8pm. It is a shared ride, so don't be surprised if the cab stops to fill up a spare seat.
Car Rental
It is possible to hire a car from Marrakech airport or in Essaouira.
You can hire a people carrier for outside the city destinations, or take a Grand Taxi. Car rental starts at 300Dh per day all inclusive for a small car.
